Kate Hamley

Kate joined the Australian Progressives in 2014 after becoming dismayed by Australian politics.

Kate was raised in the western suburbs of Melbourne. Pre-2012, the closest involvement she had with politics was serving then-MP Julia Gillard popcorn at the Werribee Cinema. When the Pacific Solution was reignited, Kate could not reconcile the abuse of human rights with the Labor Party any more and sought an alternative.

Kate graduated from La Trobe University with first class Honours in biotechnology and is a strong advocate for the adoption of scientific evidence in public policy development and the restoration of the decimated science sector in Australia.

Working professionally as a scientist in agriculture and privately in her other role as a single mum to two amazing kids, Kate brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role of Secretary.
