Robert Knight has been a member of the Australian Progressives since 2015 and National President since July 2018.
Born and raised in Canberra, Robert joined the Army upon completion of Year 12 in 1995 and spent just short of 21 years in various arms of the service, specialising in transport and logistics as an operational planner. As part of his ADF service Robert has deployed to Bougainville, the Middle East, East Timor, the Philippines and Border Protection duties to Australia’s North.
Separating from the Army in 2015, Robert has held appointments in the public and private sector, developing a rounded appreciation of the relationship between business and government as well as the impacts of government decisions on the end user. Robert’s military, government and private sector experience has instilled an appreciation of the value of ethics, transparency and acting in the public interest - things which he thinks are sadly lacking in today’s political landscape.
Robert lives in the Woden Valley in Canberra with his wife and two children, is an active member of his local residents’ association and the Public Transport Association of Canberra, and is a regular participant in local activities aiming to engage people in their community. He enjoys following Rugby Union, particularly the Brumbies and Wallabies.
