  • The NSW Progressives support a review into the resource allocation for policing, to shift towards crime prevention and investigation as opposed to revenue raising off victimless crimes.

 

Punitive Punishments

  • The NSW Progressives support reforms to the system of fines and penalty units.
  • The NSW Progressives support sentencing reform to ensure that sentences align with community expectations.
  • The NSW Progressives support the abolition of mandatory minimum sentences.
  • The NSW Progressives support the criminalisation of wage theft, and the enforcement of punitive punishments for corporate crimes against workers and the community.
  • The NSW Progressives support reform and expansion to the system of community service as restitution for criminal offences.
  • The NSW Progressives support raising the age of criminal responsibility.
  • The NSW Progressives support the expansion of Youth Intervention Policies that do not criminalise children, and can prevent the transition to a life of criminality.

Drug Law Reform

  • The NSW Progressives support the expansion of support for Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation services, and support referral to these services as a valid sentencing tool for judges.
  • The NSW Progressives support policies to decriminalise, legalise, and regulate recreational drug use where there is little change of impact to the community.
  • The NSW Progressives support the introduction of dedicated Drug Courts for dealing with Drug Related Criminal Offences.
